Description of Significance THE VALLIANT SCHOOL GYMNASIUM AND AUDITORIUM WAS A 1936 TO 1937 PROJECT OF THE WPA IN MCCURTAIN COUNTY. THIS SINGLE STORY BUILDING PROVIDED SPACE FOR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES, FOSTERING A SENSE OF COMMUNITY IDENTITY AND PRIDE. THE WALLS ARE CONSTRUCTED OF UNDRESSED AND UNCOURSED NATIVE STONE. THE ROOF RANGES FROM FLAT TO ARCHED WITH PARAPETS. PILASTERS, FRIEZES AND CONCRETE LINTELS DECORATE THE EXTERIOR WALLS. ROOF EXTENSIONS, VERTICAL LINES, AND CONCRETE PORCH COVERS SUGGEST AN ART DECO INFLUENCE. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 9/9/1988.
